KAU has commenced its’ wends from 14 July, 2015 as the first Agricultural University in grater southern region of Bangladesh. To fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu’s ‘Sonar Bangla’ and following demands from eminent personnel and others in the southern region, honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (Daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) on 5 march 2011, pledged in an assembly at Khalishpur to establish an Agricultural University in Khulna for the extension and outreach of agricultural education, techniques and technologies to overcome agricultural challenges throughout Bangladesh specially in northern coastal region.
On 11 September 2018, notable professor and scientist Dr. Md. Shahidur Rahman Khan was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor. Later on, to fasten the education and research system a technical committee was formed of nine eminent professors and scientists from reputed Agricultural Universities in Bangladesh. The academic programs of Khulna Agricultural University started on 4 April, 2019 with 60 students under two faculties. At present, students from home and abroad are studying in 43 department under 5 Faculties and 73 permanent academic staffs having outstanding academic and research profiles are engaged in teaching. As a promising university, KAU offers courses in all academic disciplines related to veterinary, agriculture, fisheries, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics and conduct research across the full spectrum of academic activity.
Despite, inherent limitations for being a Higher Education Institute of a Developing Country, KAU is highly enthused and aimed to take the leadership in the promotion of agricultural development and management of the nation by boosting up education and research environments.
